I spent the first day of the holidays going for a boat trip with my tennis team mates as a treat from Wahid for getting into the semis. Not all the girls could make it but most of us, 9 in all, were there. Had to go all the way to the West Coast Ferry Terminal to board the boat. The boat itself doesn't look very big from the outside, but it's actually quite spacious. Initially, the weather didn't look promising and true enough, it started pouring soon after we left the pier. So we were confined inside the boat and left to pig out on all the food we brought. Some of the other girls then started playing mahjong and I was also learning how to play the game. After the rain subsided, we went fishing from the boat itself. Some of the girls managed to catch fish but Wahid caught the most and largest of all. Oh well.. But most of the time were spent on mostly waiting for the fish and replacing the bait. After that, we stopped at Pulau Hantu. The island was absolutely beautiful. The whole scenery made the place look like a resort to me, with coconut and other types of trees lining the island. We went crap-hunting at the island. It was really fascinating to see the craps crawling slowly out of these little holes on the sand. We would wait patiently for the craps to come out. Once we spot them, we would run and dig like crazy. Haha, but it was a lot of fun. We managed to catch quite a few craps. But the irritating thing was that the craps are very sensitive to noise, so we could barely make any noise once we spot the craps, or else they'd retreat. So we had to get ready with our sticks standing right over the holes, poised to catch the craps. We must have looked comical. After that, we went back to the boat for more fishing. Some of us who didn't fish went to the upper deck of the boat and just lazed there. The weather was perfect, with the gentle breeze blowing against our hair and the occasional waves rocking the boat gently. We took lots of pictures and it was really sad when we had to leave. All in all, it was a really fun experience though come to think of it, we didn't do anything much from 9.30am to 6pm. But what we did do a lot was to eat since there wasn't much to do. I'm wondering how to lose calories after eating so much junk food and also yesterday's food at Pizza Hut. No more tennis to help me work out. Hopefully captain's ball for sunday school tomorrow will help.
Speaking of tennis, the tennis final was held on Tuesday at, of all places, Jurong Country Club. We had to be there to umpire the match between RJC and ACJC, so we got to miss lessons again. It's quite a nice feeling to miss lessons, but it's quite sucky having to catch up after that. Anyway, the guys' final was also held on the same day and it was also between the same schools. The quality of tennis was really really good and I was just captivated. The players also really wanted to win very badly for their respective schools and their fighting spirit really made the matches very exciting. I umpired the third singles match and it was a really good match to umpire. The AC girl sprained her ankle early in the match, yet she didn't let that hinder her and went on to trash her opponent 6-1 6-3. In the end, RJ, as expected beat AC 3-2 to retain the title. But it was closer than I thought it would be. For the guys, AC won 4-1. At the end of the day, we received our medals as well. So with that, tennis season officially ended.
I'm not terribly excited about the holidays, and I think most people feel the same way too. To me, it's just like an extended study break. I mean my whole holidays are like going to be spent studying. First week is going to be spent on studying for SAT II. The remaining three weeks for Block Test. Sigh. I can't even go back home. Still, there's the Euro 2004 to look forward to. Oh well..
Still feeling quite shaky now after the boat trip. I keep on feeling as if the house has been hit by waves and is going up and down. Hope this feeling will go soon. It's kind of driving me nuts.
